As a DONA Birth Doula in training my hope and goal is to serve Mothers-to-be who allow me to provide them with emotional, informational, and physical support before, during, and after their births, By providing these things I hope to enable the mother to make informed birth decisions that suit HER needs and wants while doing so from a grounded and safe-feeling state of mind.
As your Doula I will prepare you for birth by educating you about a variety of coping skills, labor management techniques, and your birth options. During your birth I will remind you of your goals and employ all labor coping skills at my disposal. A Doula encourages the mother's birth partner and does not replace them unless there is no support in place for the mother.
As your Doula I will not perform clinical tasks or make dicisions for you but will remind you of your plan. I will not communicate to the clinical staff the decisions you are making but will discuss your options pertaining to any decisions that depart from your original birth plan. It is my job to facilitate maximum self determination and that means empowering mothers to communicate directly with her health care providers so that it is very clear what she does and does not want to happen.
Give me a call, or text, or e-mail so we can set up our first prenatal meeting. I look forward to hearing from you.
