Stephanie Attaran – Birth and Postpartum Doula

Hello! My name is Stephanie and I am a birth and postpartum doula serving the Bay Area. I am also pursuing my master’s degree to become a Certified Nurse Midwife/Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and hope to one day expand my scope to support women and families clinically, as well as emotionally and physically.

The foundation of my doula work is built on the two very different births I experienced with my own children. I first gave birth to my oldest in a hospital, with the full suite of medications available, when I was a teenager. With my second child, I opted for an unmedicated birth at home with a midwife. These experiences taught me, on a deeply personal level, that there is no right or wrong way to give birth. I was lucky to have incredible medical staff in the hospital that respected my choices, and an awesome birth team at home, which all left me with the gift of remembering my birth experiences positively.

Unfortunately, many women and families do not have positive birth and postpartum experiences. Through my work as a doula, and eventually as a midwife, I want every person I work with to feel confident in their birthing abilities and role as new parents. I make it a priority for my clients to feel respected, informed, empowered, supported, and cared for (from all their care providers), so that they can look back on the memory of their child’s birth and those tender postpartum days with joy.
